Sarah Ross: Assistant/Patient Liaison
Sarah grew up among the Tamarack Pine Trees, Aspen groves, and wild plants in the mountains of Eastern Washington State. She holds an intrinsic appreciation and curiosity of the healing powers of plants. Sarah moved to the west side of the Cascades to attend Western Washington University where she received her BA in Sociology. There she met her husband, Matt, in the popular snowboarder hangout tequila cantina where she bartended. Matt taught Sarah to snowboard on the deep snowy slopes of Mt. Baker.
In addition to plants, Sarah also loves people. After college, Sarah worked in community based social work programs, serving homeless people and families in poverty for over a decade. Meanwhile she started her family and realized that her greatest service and most challenging work in life is being a mother! Luckily this is also her greatest love.
In 2008, Sarah moved to Austin with Matt and their two young boys with the goal of Matt pursuing his film making career. To Sarah, Austin offered friendly people, a great place to raise children with easy access to nature places, and many new kinds of plants to learn about!
Throughout the years, Sarah continues developing her interests in natural healing and plant medicine. She completed an herbal medicine apprenticeship program with local herbalist, Ginger Webb, in 2013. Sarah now works in her own apothecary making herbal tinctures, elixirs, and bitters. She sells herbs at the local downtown Farmer’s Market and offers individualized herb consults. She enjoys tromping around in the woods where she finds peace and learns a lot from the plants.
Sarah believes strongly in integrative medicine: all the traditions have a place in wellness and caring for the whole person. She enjoys working in family medicine as a patient liaison. She loves learning about healthcare in practice, as a living art with compassion as a starting place. In this way Dr. Connor is a perfect match with aligned purpose. Given a free day, Sarah’s favorite thing to do is nap…especially when it’s raining! She also enjoys cooking meals for her growing boys and watching them play ice hockey, where they shine as fierce and adorable warriors!
